Windows 95/98 QuickStart

      Troubleshooting

      • Microsoft has distributed many different versions of Windows 95, as well as the Plus! package. Not all versions work alike for establishing connections. In some instances, where the connection fails, Software Compression will need to be disabled:
On the newly created ZOTnet icon, right-click and select Properties. Press the Server Type button and select PPP. Uncheck Enable Software Compression.
      • If you have a version with PPP scripting, you may not need to have the terminal window open at the start of each session. Consult the Win95 help section in Accessories | Dial-Up Scripting Tool, if present. Or, check http://www.windows95.com/connect/dscript for more information.
      • Always shutdown and restart the system after making any changes to the Network or Dial-Up Networking settings.
      • If your modem fails to connect, consult your modem manual for the right settings.
      • A searchable index of articles and troubleshooting is available from the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://www.microsoft.com/kb/.
